What do you notice about this clock?
You probably recognise the the numbers 1-12.
You know it has three 'hands' - a long one to tell us the minutes, a short one to tell us which hour, and a finer one that sweeps around the seconds.
The time is 8 minutes past 10, 10:08 or 22: 08 or 10:08:32.

These are all observable features of this clock based on your adult experience of reading analog time.
Complexity is added to what we 'see' here when we consider that the numbers 1-12 actually represent increments of 5. This means we are doing a double count when telling them time, i.e: 1 is 5 minutes, 2 is 10 minutes etc. When we get to 12 we know this is 60 minutes, and we start again.
